When Laure, unable to cope with her grief, breaks down and has to be hospitalised in a psychiatric ward, Jean is left to face the seemingly futile task of trying to eke out a living on their isolated mountain farm on his own. Having lost most of his cattle in the fire that killed his daughter, Jean decides to work at the local foundry. There he meets Kosovar refugees Kastriot and his sister Labinota, who've fled the horrors of war and are trying to put their lives together again. A strong bond is sparked in Jean and Labitona.   • At the end of World War II Japan was under American control. It was widely anticipated that Emperor Hirohito would face trial for war crimes, but no trial ever took place. This film sets out to explore why, and to ask whether the Emperor escaped his responsibility. Based on his aide's diaries and other records, the dramatisation sheds light on the Emperor's decisions to go to war, continue the war and end the war.
