Don Burrows - Legendary Jazz musician Don Burrows (AO, MBE) has been at the forefront of the jazz world for most of his 60 years in the business. Renowned for his musicianship and his enthusiastic support for the jazz arts, he's also highly respected internationally, where he's toured annually since 1960. Burrows was named Living National Treasure in 1988 and 1998 and was the first Australian jazz artist to win a gold record, the first to play Europe's famed Montreaux and the USA's Newport festivals, the first to play in China, the first awarded a Creative Arts Fellowship, and the first inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. His passion for jazz has seen him embark on several countrywide educational tours in recent years, taking his music and experience to schools in isolated corners of Australia, from Broome to Tasmania. Celebrating the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and the triumph of Lord Nelson and the British Fleet over the French, this film takes a below decks view of the battle from the perspective of the HMS Victory's surgeon William Beatty. Drawing on authentic records, the film captures the reality of life below the water line, and the guts and professionalism of the men who did their duty. Beatty had served in the navy for over 10 years, surviving malaria, yellow fever, shipwreck and court martial, but he'd never faced battle on this scale before. In the course of the four hour battle of Trafalgar, while the ship was being bombarded by the French, Beatty saved 102 men, performed 11 amputations, and made an executive decision not to operate upon Lord Nelson who had suffered a fatal musket wound through his left shoulder. Romagna - This region near the Adriatic coast is famous for its wines, architecture and Palatine, Christian and Byzantine art. We visit the Church of St Francis in Ravenna, the burial place of Dante, and sample The Penne Rigate, a simple pasta dish with zucchini, tomato and onion. Next we go to Forli and Castrocaro lying between the coast and the Apennine Mountains. Castrocaro is famous for its thermal spa, and at La Frasca restaurant we are introduced to Truffled Beef, and the duties of a sommelier. In the area, Mario Pezzi's vineyard 'Fattoria Paradiso' is famous for its Barbarossa wine, a variety of grape that Mario rediscovered in the 50s. Finally, we travel to Rimini which is the Riviera Romagnolo and are given instructions for making a traditional fish soup. Presented by Silvio Rivier. Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), a novelist with writer's block and a reformed alcoholic, takes a job as caretaker of the Overlook Hotel in the secluded mountains of Colorado. He and his wife Wendy and young son Danny will be the only occupants for five months, while the hotel is closed for winter. Jack hopes the peace and seclusion will inspired him to write again, but the place hides a dark secret and soon begins to affect his sanity.
