Sneak peek at Eric Bana's Love The Beast

Eric Bana makes his directorial debut in March, in a very personal story about his 25-year relationship with his first car, a Ford GT Falcon Coupe, dubbed "The Beast".


Love the Beast explores Bana's obsession with his car, and his relationship with the three friends who have helped to restore it. With The Beast in peak condition, Bana and his friends decide to enter the car in the gruelling Targa rally and inevitably, tragedy strikes.

Chevolution is a fast paced, stylised, high production documentary that charts an image of a man who became synonymous with the 20th Century: Che Guevara.

Baz Luhrmann’s Australia (2008) has got us all thinking. One movie that claims to have everything: a budget of over $150 million; stars; history; love; cattle and the Stolen Generations. But what about point of view?  Kylie Boltin investigates some alternatives.


I value that Indigenous people are represented in Luhrmann’s film as an integral part of Australia’s history. This is a recognition that our story as a nation cannot be told without an Indigenous perspective, but I have concerns about that very representation and the film’s appropriation of Indigenous culture and history.

Elissa Down’s The Black Balloon and Peter Duncan’s Unfinished Sky won six awards each at  the AFI Awards celebrations on the weekend. Kylie Boltin attended the joint Australian Directors Guild/AFI 'Meet the Directors' conversation with both directors, and shares their recollections on making their films.


Down says that unlike Tony Ayres' The Home Song Stories (2007) or Louis Malle’s Au Revoir les Enfants (trans. Goodbye Children, 1987) there was never a “memoir element” to the film.
